Bald Eagle AND Pendulum
Around the same time last week that I made my Bald Eagle applique is around the same time that Ruth Bader Ginsburg said "A great man once said that the true symbol of the United States is not the bald eagle; it is the pendulum, and when the pendulum swings too far in one direction, it will go back."

I suppose I turned to the bald eagle because it gives me hope and a sense of peace & tranquility. I have to separate myself from the political hoopla because it gives me extreme anxiety.
But I don't want to stick my head in the sand. I want to DO something. So, the thing I do is make things, make art. I sew things.
I admire the Notorious RBG so it's hard to say I disagree, but I believe a true symbol of the United States is the bald eagle. It seems to have been co-opted by the right to a certain extent. So, I'm saying it's not for either side, but for all of us in the United States.
At the same time, I like RBG's sentiment that a pendulum is a symbol of the United States. I wish she would have said that a true symbol of the United State is not ONLY the bald eagle, but ALSO the pendulum.
Anyway, here's my pendulum:

Here's hoping it swings back toward the middle soon.
BTW, the "great man" she is referring to in the quote is her husband, the late Martin D. Ginsburg, as noted in the Guardian.
