Pet Portrait Pillow

I've made a second pet pillow or pet portrait. This one is of Yoshi, a cute little doggie in Seattle that lives with Katie & Drew.

This one was harder that the first one for a couple of reasons.

One, the first one I did because I was inspired by a photo. This one, Katie gave me the photo and I worked from there. That might sound minor, but it isn't, Yoshi and Zeus are both amazing, great dogs, but inspiration is a fickle thing.

Second, Zeus is a short hair and Yoshi isn't. Texture played a much bigger role in Yoshi's portrait and I did a bunch of free motion quilting to get the effects I wanted.

Lastly, the eyes capture the animal, in my opinion. I had a hard time with Yoshi's eye. In the photo that Katie gave me, he's looking out of the window with a curious, super adorable look in his eye. My version makes him look sort of angry. I messed with it so long that I finally just had to call it a day and finish it.

Anyway, Katie and Drew like it, or at least they said they did. I also have a hard time capturing my work in photos and I think this one looks better in real life than in the photo.

Next up is Zelda, Yoshi's little sister. Maybe they'll get a cat and name him or her Mario.

Here's the photo of Yoshi that Katie sent to me:

And here's the pet portrait:

And finally the pillow, front & back:
